Learn more about the background
Freinet pedagogy - always relevant yesterday, today and tomorrow
Célestin Freinet (1896 – 1966) developed his pedagogical pedagogical approach with a clear view of current burning social and political issues. He and his wife Elise made their basic demand “to give the children the floor”. They insisted that education must always be in tune with the times.
At the beginning of the 20th century, the Freinets maintained close contact with the reformist educational movements developing in Europe. educational reform movements. The cruel experiences of the First World War led them to anchor pacifism as a guiding principle in their pedagogy. They therefore also strove for international cooperation in a peaceful context. Célestin suffered a severe blow during the First World War: as a soldier, he was critically injured by a bullet to the lung. This limited his ability to speak long and loudly. He found it difficult to teach face-to-face for long periods.
Give up and retrain? Freinet turned his need into a virtue and adapted didactics and pedagogy to his personal possibilities. In workshops, he promoted cooperative learning among the pupils and allowed life itself to be their greatest teacher.

It gives me great pleasure to see the children grow in their abilities.

Learn naturally
With an approachable attitude, being a teacher is fun.
To develop positively as a learner in this dynamic world develop positively in this dynamic world, you need self-esteem and good resilience. The learners in our institutions therefore do not need educators and teachers who teach them prefabricated learning material. They need people who attitude consciously exemplify and act as companions of natural learning see themselves as companions of natural learning.
Today’s Freinet educators are committed to a human-centered approach to education. human-oriented attitude. They have an individual view of the potential of their learners and respect the free development of their personality. This is why they always develop their working methods according to their target group – adapted to current requirements.

I experienced the Freinet meetings as a lively and vibrant exchange of practical ideas.

Strengthening participation in the learning process
Open up new spaces and opportunities for learners through more participation.
In the Freinet pedagogy, active participation participation of the learners is a high priority. Freinet teachers enthusiastically invite their learners to engage authentically and openly with new things. They experience the natural, exploratory learning as intrinsically motivated. The focus here is on the interest in personal development that is inherent in each of us.
In this process, Freinet educators also see themselves as lifelong learners. They are prepared to put themselves and their own views aside for the success of the learners. All those involved in the learning situation communicate with each other in an appreciative manner at eye level. These encounters create spaces for a democratic Together. They thus enable the Free expression of the individual and strengthen their self-confidence.

During the Freinet training, I was able to really experience how natural learning works without external guidelines. By taking on a project of my own choosing, I recognized the learning paths described by Freinet first-hand in my own learning. I can now transfer the experience of understanding how learning works to the people around me.

Gain satisfaction
Find out how you can implement Freinet pedagogy in everyday life.
Freinet educators adopt new and open learning situations with joy. We accompany the learners’ desire to discover with our methodological and specialist knowledge. We give the learners the freedom to discover through the method of groping experiments to find answers to their own questions. We trust that learners will find and pursue their own individual solutions. We welcome the resulting diversity of learning paths.
We take the needs learners seriously throughout the entire process. We respect their views and see failure as a desired part of the learning process. As learning facilitators, we gain a more understanding view of the people around us. We become more relaxed and satisfied in our everyday pedagogical work.

The “natural method” presented me with the biggest challenge during my Freinet training. I had to come to terms with myself and how I learn. It wasn’t easy to let go, because I expected someone to give me instructions on how best to learn certain things. I tried different things and found out that there is no perfect method and that any method can be good if I put my mind to it.

Growing together
Use cooperative forms of learning and working for diversity in your learning group.
According to one of Freinet’s guiding principles “Through life – for life” we promote the uniqueness and resilience of the learners. The relevance of the learners’ lives determines the research questions that we pursue as directly as possible. In doing so, we allow everyone as much freedom as possible. By creating collaborative relationships, we promote the cooperative learning. The agreements in the learning group provide us with a structuring framework for this. The negotiation between Freedom and structure is a central task that we pursue on a daily basis.
As learning companions, we can be who we are. This gives us self-confidence. The Freinet pedagogy gives us self-confidence, serenity and lightness. This increases our quality of life.
When learning, we share the joy with our learners. As learning facilitators, we create spaces for collegial cooperation: we network, exchange ideas and develop together.

The mutual support during my Freinet training was enriching and has led me to believe that teamwork is the only sensible way of working at school.
