Freinet used the learning impulses of places in the environment and nature for the learning projects in his group. As the learners explore new paths, a variety of learning impulses arise on their own. This can happen by visiting craftspeople and experts in the district, through excursions and learning trips, and by inviting experts to the facility. The group then collects all the research questions and starts new research projects based on the questions that the learners choose themselves. This keeps the –> intrinsic motivation to learn alive.

The Livre de vie is a Freinet pedagogical variant of a –>Portfolio. It is a form of presentation and documentation of an individual, often long-term learning process. The Livre de vie documents newly acquired content, but also the way in which it was acquired. Great importance is attached to the overall aesthetic design. The author determines the design him/herself as a sign of personal and –>free expression (e.g. format, cover design, cover material used): format, cover design, fonts used, page layout, color scheme).
