Diversity is variety.
Heterogeneity is a major topic. In Freinet pedagogy, the diversity of the learning group enriches learning. Even if you sometimes find it difficult to deal with differences, you can use them as potential. Every issue of “otherness” is an opportunity for you as a learning guide: “Augenmerk-Kinder” and “Systemsprenger” show you where things need to change. With more leeway and clear agreements, they can show you all facets of their personality. As an educator, you are always required to negotiate the balancing act between freedom and structure with your group. If you observe sensitively and reflectively, you can create the right framework.

I have found very good and helpful solutions to the challenges posed by a heterogeneous student body in the diverse methods of Freinet pedagogy.

Utilizing potential

Open up and design your spaces of diversity.
Recognize the diversity that is present in your group as a result of inclusion, refugees, etc. Use this potential to enable interest- and topic-oriented learning. Because according to Elise and Célestin Freinet, everyone can and wants to learn at their own pace. Create a learning environment in which the power of the group can take effect. Make sure that everyone feels safe and accepted in this colorful community, just as they are.

My varied choral work shows that I am a Freinet teacher. I make every effort to ensure that everyone makes their voice heard and that a good sense of community is created.
