Presence meeting
Find topics
Get to know interesting people and new Freinet methods.
We have been meeting in different places for a long time. We work together in the Freinet pedagogical sense. The events serve the personal exchange between educators and interested parties. We organize ourselves grassroots democratic. A group is being formed within our association to prepare the meetings. A reliable organizational framework is provided.
At the meetings, you can introduce topics and request topics. Thanks to the diversity of our members, you will find experts from different areas. The topics are discussed in the Plenum. A lively exchange takes place here: There are participants who make offers and present their plans. On the other hand, there are people who have a specific question or want to learn a method. The offers presented are then used to create a Conference schedulein which all activities are integrated into a sensible schedule.

In the workshops, I work on my attitude and my self-esteem as an educator: Freinet pedagogy strengthens me in my democratic, participative and appreciative attitude towards everyone. It lets me know that I can be free in my thoughts and actions.

Use studio offers
Learn, create and network.
We organize the activities at our face-to-face meetings in two different studio formats:
-
Long-term workshops (LA) :
The long-term workshops (LA) take place over several days, each lasting several hours. Here, participants delve deeper into a Freinet method and carry out practical exercises. The LA is usually led by a Freinet teacher who already has long-term experience in this area. For example, "shadow theater" or "inventing mathematics" can be chosen as a long-term offer. -
Short-term workshops (KA) :
Short-term workshops (KA) are held to give space to the diverse and colorful ideas and experiences of the participants during a meeting. These are one-off sessions lasting 1.5 - 2.5 hours. In the KA, you deal with a topic for which you receive an initial impulse. For example, you can meet up with others for a discussion on the topic of "morning circle" or take part in a workshop on the topic of "bookbinding".
At the end of the event there will be presentations from the studios. The diverse forms of presentation, from exhibitions and readings to theater plays, give you an impression of the work in the other studios. To the Conclusion of the meeting a plenary session is held again. Suggestions for improvement are collected here. A new preparatory group for the next meeting is formed from the circle of participants.

The symposia have always been very enriching for my teaching practice, both at school and in teacher training as well as for my choral work. They were also a lot of fun.

Every two years, an international Freinet congress, the RIDEF (Rencontre International Des Educateurs Freinet) take place. They serve to further develop the theory and practice of Freinet pedagogy through international exchange. Educators from all over the world meet to learn from each other and critically reflect on their own practice. The congress is prepared by the country group hosting the congress.
Each RIDEF is organized via the umbrella organization, the FIMEM (Féderation Internationale des Mouvements d’ École Morne), is organized. It is an international association of national Freinet groups and movements. Today, national and regional groups work in more than 35 countries around the world.

The next RIDEF will take place from August 2 – 11, 2024 in Oaxaca, Mexico. More information will be published soon in the calendar of events.

My second Freinet experience was a working congress in Switzerland, on the Herzberg. The congress was very much based on professional exchange. I gave a long-term workshop on my Quoai math material and was happy to have the 8-year-old granddaughter of one of the participants with me. With her childlike intensity, she motivated the teachers to delve deeper into the material. A great place that strongly influenced and supported the warm, tight quality of the event.

Future workshop
"Freinet Renovate"
Are you one of those people who like to get involved, reflect on what already exists and create something new?
We look forward to your input and ideas. Based on this impulse, participants in the Freinet further education program launched the annual “Freinet Renovate” meeting. This future workshop aims to reflect on association processes and focuses on change in the balance between inside and outside. It brings together people who have been anchored in Freinet pedagogy for decades and those who have only just learned about Freinet pedagogy.
If you would like to take part in the next “Freinet Renovieren” meeting, take a look at our calendar of events. With our two-year further training on the theory and practice of Freinet pedagogy, you can gain fundamental insights and initiate change processes in yourself and your field of work.

My first Freinet meeting was “Freinet Renovating” in the fall of 2021 at Mikado. I was lucky enough to meet people there with whom I have a lot in common when it comes to educational work with mathematics and art. I would like to see a wider spread of Freinet daycare centers and secondary Freinet schools. Freinet’s idea is so dewy-eyed and plausible at a hundred years old and would need many possible applications in order to work through and contribute to the current educational and political situation.
